I rented a Wrangler 4Xe last spring in Colorado. I couldn’t use the all-electric battery because it was out of charge when I picked it up. The hybrid feature was fantastic. Out of 1500 miles, 300 were on the hybrid battery and I got 27 mpg. Driving from J/E tunnels to Denver in stop-and-go traffic was mostly on battery. I would replace my WildTrak with a dual plug-in hybrid if it becomes available.
@Del
I hope the hybrid is available for more trims and not just the top models like the Outer Banks. I like my Big Bend now, but I would definitely order the plug-in when it comes out. I just hope they don’t downgrade the motor to the 1.5L.
@Del
My wife drives a 4xe Rubicon, and it’s surprisingly good. The all-electric range is decent at around 25 miles, and it’s powerful enough for that. If you push it in 4hi auto, it accelerates from 0-60 in about 5 seconds. When the battery runs out, it still uses the electric motor for slow speeds and stopping. During her 80-mile commute, she uses less than 3 gallons a day, which is impressive for such a large vehicle with 33s.
If Ford can do something like that with the Bronco, I think it will do really well.

Is it Toyota, Honda, and Dodge that only make minivans?

Kia Carnival is the other one that comes to mind in the US market.

Toyota, Honda, Kia, and Chrysler.

Might be at the same time.
I was hoping the hybrid would come out sooner. We wanted to wait for a hybrid, but we couldn’t hold off anymore. I’ve loved owning my Bronco for about 11 months now, but I will definitely consider trading it in when the hybrid version is available.
@Tatum
No downside. Enjoy your current Bronco, order the new one, and sell your old one for a profit when the new one arrives.
If it can still tow 3500, I’m all in.

The power-boost hybrid in the F-150 doesn’t seem to impact towing capacity. The battery weight might affect your payload, though.

I can’t afford that, haha.
@Nova
Fair point, but I wouldn’t expect the hybrid Bronco to be cheap either.

At least with plug-ins, we get the $7500 rebate; hybrids give us nothing.

That’s a good point. I expect the new model will be 4-door only. I’ll have to decide if a stick shift and a 2-door are worth it or if I should trade it for the hybrid.

That’s the great part about electric: likely unlimited torque. I’m curious to see what Ford comes up with.
