Which GOAT setting works best in winter?

I just got a new Bronco with the Sasquatch package, and tomorrow I need to drive to work. There’s a chance the roads will be icy since I’m in Texas.

What GOAT setting should I use for icy roads?

I think ‘Slippery’ would be your best bet.

I’ve been using Slippery on icy days and it’s worked really well for me.

I’d just put it in 4A. I don’t use the GOAT modes much because I don’t like how it changes the throttle. But if you want to use them, go with ice or snow mode. You really only need 4H if you’re off-roading or in deep snow. Just go easy on the gas and brakes.

@Axel
Totally agree. How you drive matters more than which mode you pick.

Avoid tailgating, don’t use cruise control, and be gentle with the gas and brakes.

I’m from Wisconsin, and 4A plus Normal mode works just fine for me.

@Axel
The point of Slippery mode is to soften acceleration and stop the wheels from spinning. It’s basically like Eco mode in 4H.

Yeah, I get that. I just prefer driving without it because I know how my truck handles without the extra help. Plus, they teach the same thing at the Bronco Off-Roadeo — it’s good to know how to drive without relying on those modes.

@Axel
I get that. But I like using the dial; it’s kinda fun to switch between modes.

Once I get Sport mode on my Badlands, that’s the one I’ll probably use the most.

Sport mode makes a big difference, especially on highways. I’ve got the 2.3L, and it really makes the Bronco feel powerful. But around town, the gear shifts feel a bit weird.

@Axel
I’ve seen videos where people say that using 4A is bad for your transmission. I think it’s better to stick with 2H, 4L, or 4H depending on conditions.

That’s interesting. I live in Denver and mostly use 2H, but I’ll keep an eye on that.

I’ve got a 2-door Badlands with the 2.7L engine (no Sasquatch) and I use Slippery mode when the roads are slick. It automatically goes to 4A. I drove around College Station today with some slick spots, and it did well. Stay safe!

If it’s just a little snow or rain, Normal mode is fine, just drive carefully. For heavier snow or ice, switch to Slippery and drive slower.

Depending on your transfer case, Slippery should automatically go to 4A, and it will switch to 4H if needed. It also adjusts traction control settings, but you probably won’t notice a big difference unless 4H kicks in.

@Darcy
Totally agree. Works well for me too.

Normal mode works fine.

I had to drive to work on an icy highway in Houston today. I used Slippery mode, and it worked well. I’ve got a 2-door with manual transmission, and while the roads were mostly okay, the overpasses were icy. Be careful out there!

@Sidney
I’ve got a manual too. Did you leave it in 2H?

No, Slippery mode automatically goes to 4H.

Keep it in 2H and have some fun! Oversteer is fun, but understeer is scary!
