Thoughts on the Ford Bronco

I really like how the Ford Broncos look. They aren’t your usual mom SUV but I’m curious about their gas mileage, any mechanical issues, or other problems. Does anyone own a new Ford Bronco and enjoy it? Or does anyone know a lot about them? What are the good and bad points? Thanks in advance

They’re pretty bad on gas and the 2.7L engine has a big recall for something serious. If you mostly drive on regular roads and want to avoid the mom SUV look, there are better options. But if you plan to do some off-roading, it’s a good choice because it has some off-road capability, though you may lose some comfort and have more noise.

@Denim
I thought so. They look awesome but I figured there had to be some issues. Do you have other suggestions for SUVs that don’t look like mom cars?

It really depends on taste, but if you can check out the smaller Bronco Sport, that’s a solid choice. The CX-5, CX-50, and CX-30 from Mazda are nice options. I’ve heard good things about the Tucson, and the Atlas seems decent, but I haven’t driven those two. The Venza is really comfy and efficient, but I’m not sure if it has a mom look. They are releasing a Nightshade edition next year that should look a bit edgier if you can wait for 2023.

@Denim
Atlas has a lot of problems. I would avoid that one.

Good to know! I didn’t realize that. Thanks

I guess you like the boxy style? Consider the Toyota 4Runner, Tahoe, BMW X3 or X5, Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Range Rover, etc.

@Noel
Is the Stelvio really boxy?

Not really, but I thought it could be a less mom-looking choice.

That’s the main point. I love how they look, but having bought a Sport Trac in its first year, I won’t buy another car in its first year again. Let them work out the major issues and fix the smaller ones, then think about it. (That’s what I’m doing with the Maverick.)

People are forgetting that with part shortages, new cars will likely have many issues in the next few years. The supply chain for parts is really inconsistent right now, which means some manufacturers might have to lower their quality to meet demand. This includes issues with parts, supplies, and tools for making the parts.

A Honda Odyssey doesn’t really look like a crossover or SUV. I would recommend that if you want to avoid that style. Or look at a station wagon like the Audi Allroad.

If you’re not going off-road, there’s really no reason to get one.

I have a 2023 Outer Banks Blue Ford Bronco and it’s amazing. I get about 21.7 mpg and haven’t had any mechanical issues so far. It rides really well.

@An
I figured as much from Ford. I love boxy vehicles but like you said, they’re not very fuel-efficient.

The new Bronco is cool, but the 2.7… yikes. Check out the Bronco Sport instead; it has better engines and is more suited for daily driving.

I’m really wanting to get one. They aren’t great on gas. They’re also pretty hard to find right now unless you’re okay with waiting a year or paying extra. The 2023 model should have some issues fixed. But honestly, I would LOVE to have one. I’m not in a hurry for a new car, but if I can get one at MSRP, I’m going for it. I’ll probably choose the Sasquatch package. I’ll tell myself I’ll go off-roading, but realistically, I’ll just take it to the beach at most and I know that haha.
