We were stuck in traffic, and after my Bronco did that thing where the engine drops to 0 RPM at a stop, it wouldn’t start again.
The center console screen showed a message that said “System off to save battery. Please turn ignition off or start engine.” We turned the car off and tried to start it again but had no luck. We sat there in the middle of the two-lane highway for 25 minutes while a cop helped manage traffic behind us.
Finally, when we tried to shift it into neutral to push it, after 25 minutes, it suddenly started up again. We managed to drive it to the dealership, and it’s there being checked out now.
I’m sharing this to see if anyone else has experienced something similar and if there’s a way to stop the engine from going to 0 RPM to prevent this from happening again.
I had something similar happen to me, but it was at a stop sign. I’m also waiting to find out what the problem is. Sounds a lot like Recall Reference Number: 24S24
That really stinks. I haven’t experienced that with my car, but my dad’s F-150 thought it was a good idea to force an update and stop the car while it was updating, while I was backing out of a busy restaurant parking lot. That took about 40 minutes, and then it happened again out in the sticks and took an hour.
It’s kind of similar but very different. It must have been frustrating for you.
You should consider getting the AGM battery and turning off the start/stop feature when you start your car. I just got a new 24 OB for my kid, and I told him to turn that feature off before driving. I’m worried about it.

I just got a software update done for a recent recall that’s supposed to fix this issue.

It could be a bad battery. They give all kinds of strange codes and alerts when the battery isn’t holding a charge. I had to replace mine. I’m waiting on a turbo now and not very happy about it.

We didn’t get any warning back in July 2023 about the dead battery in our 2021 Badlands. Luckily, it happened in a Costco parking lot, and I changed it out in the hot Houston heat.

I have a 2022 Bronco Sport too. I think there are issues with this model. It’s the first year… or was it 2021? Either way, it’s common to have problems with a new model or redesign. There was a recall on the rear brakes and on fuel-related issues that could cause a fire. I keep getting computer issues and just replaced some sort of hose. The check engine light just came on again, and I’ve only got 34,000 miles on it. I’ve even bought a BlueDriver diagnostic tool just for this vehicle.
