Rear window shattered… covered by warranty?

I just closed the tailgate on my 2023 Badlands and the rear window shattered for no clear reason. Does anyone know if this is covered under warranty? How long does it usually take to fix at a Ford service center? Do they keep these parts in stock? Thanks for any advice.

I’ve been waiting about two months for a rear window replacement, so I’d suggest putting in an order quickly if it’s covered. In the meantime, find a temporary fix because the wait might be long.

On our Wildtrak, I noticed there’s a small bracket on the right side. If the rear window isn’t fully closed, that bracket can hit the glass. My wife and I always make sure to push on the glass when closing the tailgate to avoid this.

I doubt it’s covered, but check your warranty to be sure. If it’s not, skip Ford and call a local auto glass shop. They’re usually faster and cheaper, and many will come to you to replace the glass in your driveway or at work.

Edit: My guess is the upper glass wasn’t latched properly, and when you closed the gate, the loose glass got enough shock to shatter. Just an idea, though.

Thanks, I just booked an appointment with Safelite. They’re coming to my driveway Tuesday morning. Do you know if they use OEM glass? It’s strange they have it in stock when Ford doesn’t.

Safelite claims to use OEM glass made by Fuyao, which is a company that supplies OEM glass. However, some reports say their glass is thinner and doesn’t hold up as well. Not trying to scare you, but just something to keep in mind.

When Safelite replaced my windshield, they gave me the option of OEM Ford glass or aftermarket. I went with the aftermarket one because it didn’t have those silly ‘accessory ready’ arrows on it. The aftermarket windshield has lasted longer than the original.

Good to know, thanks!

Thanks, I’ll keep a close eye on the quality when they replace it.

You can ask them to use either OEM or aftermarket glass.

A guy near me with a Braptor had the same issue. His rear window shattered out of nowhere. It took six weeks for the replacement to arrive, and then it arrived broken. He had to wait another six weeks for the second one. Makes you wonder if there’s a design flaw.

@Jory
That’s concerning. I made a Safelite appointment, though. They’re coming Tuesday morning with a replacement. It’s costing me about $650.

My dealership didn’t even handle glass replacements when my windshield cracked. They redirected me to a third-party partner, and those guys couldn’t figure out my warranty. I’ll probably call Safelite soon too.

I’d start by calling a dealer and asking if it’s covered under warranty. That way, you’ll know for sure before spending money on Safelite or something else.

Ford quality… always a surprise, lol.

My rear window shattered randomly too. Does anyone know if it’s an issue with the glass quality? I ended up calling my insurance and had it replaced by Safelite.

Did Safelite use OEM glass? They’re coming to replace mine on Tuesday. Thanks!

@Sam
Did they reuse your window wiper motor and parts?

You must be super strong to shatter it like that.
