Fell in love with Bronco… thinking of leaving my Civic?

Hey everyone,

I stumbled on this forum while researching. I’m looking for advice from Ford Bronco owners. I’m 38, single, no kids (yet), and currently drive a 2024 Honda Civic. Lately, I’ve been finding the Civic too small and uncomfortable, especially on long drives. Plus, it sits low and collects every pebble on the road! The suspension is stiff, which doesn’t help with my daily 32-mile commute (each way).

I’ve been eyeing the 2024 Ford Bronco, specifically the Black Diamond and Outer Banks trims. I’d love to hear your experiences—pros, cons, and how reliable it is, especially with the turbo engine. Any advice would help!

Thanks in advance!

I’m also in accounting and drive a 2-door Badlands. Reserved mine in July 2020, picked it up three years later! Here’s my take:

Cons:

  • Picks up rocks easily
  • Noisy interior
  • A bit uncomfortable
  • Super tall (watch out for low garages)
  • 17mpg on a 16-gallon tank
  • Sound system needs an upgrade

Pros:

  • Everything else!
  • After a tough day or long trip, it’s a joy to drive
  • Surprisingly agile for its size (similar to my old Fusion)
  • 2-door version is easy to maneuver
  • Turbo works well, no issues so far
  • Looks awesome
  • Plenty of mods and AUX switches
  • Doors and top off = fun times
  • Even my wife loves it

If you’re new to SUVs, consider the Bronco Sport. For commuting, maybe look into a Volvo S60 or BMW 3 Series instead.

@Freddie
Totally agree, though I don’t mind the noise, and I find the front seats comfy. Also have a 2-door, but accessing the back seat is a workout. Drives like a dream, though!

@Freddie
Spot-on list. I’m an owner too and agree with your points.

Bronco might not be the best fit for you. I have a Wildtrak and only get 17mpg. It handles big bumps well but picks up every small one. The ride isn’t super smooth, and the wide wheels throw up rocks.

That said, it looks amazing, has great off-road capabilities, decent tech, and lots of accessories. You might want to wait for the new 4Runner—it’ll have a hybrid drivetrain, which could be better for commuting.

It’s not great for commuting. Bad mpg, noisy, bumpy, heavy, and lacks luxury. Maybe stick with another sedan or try an EV? The Bronco is more for outdoor adventures and road trips.

It’s my favorite car for those exact reasons.

This person probably hasn’t owned older trucks or just doesn’t want to see more Broncos on the road. Sure, the mileage will be a shocker, but the ride is better, and modern unibody cars aren’t silent either. SUVs like the Bronco Sport might be a good compromise for OP.

@Nova
Agree with this. I’ve been driving a Civic Si for years and test-drove a Bronco. Didn’t feel much noisier to me.

@Nova
I’ve had plenty of cars and SUVs, and the Bronco is easily the loudest. Love it, but not for commuting. Thinking of adding sound dampening for road trips.

It’s all about perspective. I’ve commuted in older trucks, and my Wildtrak hardtop is tolerable in comparison. It’s fine for daily drives and handles long trips well. Sure, wind noise can be a factor, but it’s not unbearable.

Agree 100%. Definitely test drive one on the freeway before buying. Maybe even rent one for a day to see if it fits your commute.

It’s a full-size truck. Hard to compare to a compact car.
