Anyone else having issues with stop/start in their new car?

Just got a 24 Outer Banks edition. I’ve had stop/start in other cars before, and while I’m not a fan, I think mine isn’t working right.

When I stop, whether the AC is on or off, the engine shuts down for about 2-3 seconds and then restarts. It never stays off longer than that. In my previous car, it only restarted if the AC was running or if I eased off the brake. It feels like it’s not working as it should. I usually turn it off, but since this is a brand-new car, I’d like it to function properly.

For new cars, the battery might be a bit low from sitting at the dealer or during transport. A good long drive should help.

Check the status screen in your dash menu. It shows why the system isn’t engaging. There are several conditions it checks for.

Are you pressing the brake pedal all the way down? With ours, if you don’t press it firmly enough, the auto-stop won’t activate.

Yes, I’m pushing it down properly. I’ll try pressing harder just to see if that helps, but my previous car worked the same way.

There’s a screen in the dash display that shows the auto start/stop status. It’ll tell you why it’s not working when it’s inactive.

Honestly, just turn it off. It’s not worth the hassle lol.

Is the auto brake hold on or off? If mine is off, even the slightest movement on the brake pedal will restart the engine. With the brake hold assist on, it stays off until I press the gas.

I didn’t realize that was an option. I’ll check it out, thanks!

Yeah, same here. You just get used to holding your foot still without fidgeting. It’s actually helpful in stop-and-go traffic since there’s no delay when starting again.

My 24 Outer Banks does the exact same thing you described.

That’s normal. Mine didn’t even shut off for the first few months after I got it. I thought it was broken, but it just needed longer drives to charge the battery enough for it to work properly. Now it’s fine.

@Micah
Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. If the battery charge is low, the system won’t let the engine shut off. Sometimes at a stoplight, it’ll turn off and then restart almost immediately.

Have you checked if the auto hold is on? It’s the button right behind the e-brake.
