Which is better for reliability... Bronco or Wrangler?

Hey everyone, I’ve been considering switching from my 2019 Wrangler to a Ford Bronco, but I’m not sure if it’s a step up in terms of reliability. I know Wranglers are infamous for having issues, though they hold their value pretty well. Does the Bronco do better in this department? And what about resale value? I’d love to hear your thoughts or see any data comparing the two!

I’d check out some Bronco owner forums to see what they’re saying. Probably the best place for real experiences.

True! I’ve just spent too much time on this forum today lol.

@Scout
I always join an owners group for a few months before buying a car. Helps me see common problems and fixes. If it’s mostly the same issues, it’s not too bad. But if it’s random stuff, I dig deeper into reviews and tests.

Just keep in mind that forums can be biased. People with no issues don’t post as often as those with problems. So you might see more complaints than praise.

@Jordan
Yeah, that’s true for any brand though. People tend to vent online when something goes wrong.

Consumer Reports rates the Bronco’s predicted reliability at 37/100, while the Wrangler is lower at 27/100. The most reliable off-road vehicle they’ve rated is the Toyota 4Runner at 87/100.

That’s helpful, thanks! Do they give specifics on what’s dragging the Bronco’s score down?

@Scout
Your local library might have a Consumer Reports subscription. Worth checking!

Wait, who even thinks of calling a librarian for this? :joy:

I’m your mom. And you should call me more often, btw.

@Reagan
Thanks, mom!

Former Jeep owner here. Everything broke at some point. I can vouch for that.

I had a 2012 Wrangler. Can confirm, it was a disaster.

@Scout
Yes, they break down issues into categories like engine, transmission, electrical, etc. A one-month subscription to Consumer Reports is about $10 if you want to check it out yourself.

Just remember, predicted reliability comes from reported problems in prior years. People are biased toward brands like Toyota, which explains their high ratings.

@Jordan
Actually, it’s based on data from previous models, not opinions. If a model has had consistent issues over the years, it gets a lower score.

I’m a Ford tech. While the Bronco doesn’t have major reliability issues like the Bronco Sport, I’ve seen a ton of water leaks on them. Be prepared for that.

Thanks for the heads-up! Are the leaks coming from windows or doors?

@Scout
Mostly around the roof, window seals, and seams. Good news is it’s warranty work. Bad news is it might be a recurring issue.
