Weird squeaking noise when backing up… normal or not?

Hey all, I got my Bronco Sport less than a month ago, and every time I reverse, I hear this squeaking sound. I recorded it—first clip is from the morning, and the second is later in the day. I’ve been told it’s ‘normal,’ but I’m having a hard time buying that.

The sound only happens when I press the brakes, but the brakes were checked, and everything was said to be fine. Has anyone else dealt with this?

Welcome to the club :joy:.

Bronco Sport Whale Edition.

Same here. I took mine to Ford, and they told me it’s normal and suggested cleaning the brake dust off. A year later, it still happens, especially when it’s damp outside—rain, dew, or snow. There are a lot of posts about this noise on this forum too.

Mine does it too… 2021 Big Bend.

Mine’s a 2021 Outer Banks.

I literally spent hours searching this forum the day before I bought my 2024 Sport. I even asked the dealer about the brake noise and coolant stuff… they acted like they had no clue. I call nonsense, but I still went through with it lol.

We had our brakes replaced—new rotors and pads—and it still squeaks. It’s been happening on and off for 2 years now, and it’s so frustrating.

I started backing into my driveway just so I don’t wake up my neighbors early in the morning. That noise is loud.

It’s just one of those ‘Ford features.’ I know a few people with different Ford models, and they’ve all had the same issue. The dealership told them it’s totally normal.

Mine does it when there’s a lot of moisture in the air. Someone told me it could be the rear wheel bushings, but I’m still waiting for a recall. Not holding my breath though.

Same problem here. It’s usually worse in high humidity or cold weather. Ford has a Technical Service Bulletin about it if you take it in. The sound still happens for me sometimes, but it’s less frequent since the fix.

I call it a ‘howling’ noise. I replaced the rear brake pads two months ago, and it’s been quiet ever since.

Parts I used: Motorcraft BKCF11 (x2)
Raybestos MGD1833CH pads from RockAuto.

The Ford dealership near me told me last October they expected a fix by the end of the year, but I haven’t heard anything since.

Mine’s at Ford right now. They’re doing the service bulletin fix. I’ve seen mixed results though, so I’m not holding my breath.

I took mine in, and they fixed it.

Same here. Everything works fine; it just squeaks in reverse. My old Transit Connect did the same thing.

I’ve had my 2024 Big Bend for 7 months now and haven’t noticed this. It’s parked outside all year too.

We finally got ours fixed. Ford has a kit now to deal with it, but it took almost two years to get it sorted.

I’ve got a 2022 Sport S and thought I was the only one. Was about to take it in to check the brakes.
