Thinking about getting a Bronco … good for camping and work?

I’m torn between buying a Bronco or a Tacoma in the next few months. I do a lot of camping and need something that can handle long drives for work while carrying a bunch of gear. Does the Bronco work well for that kind of stuff, or would the Tacoma be better?

I’ve had Toyotas most of my life. They’re super reliable, but I couldn’t deal with how uncomfortable they are and how weak the engine feels. I just got an F-150 and love it, but if I didn’t need the truck bed, I would’ve gone for the Bronco. Once I finish grad school and move to Montana, I’m adding a Bronco to my garage for sure.

@Reed
What models of Toyota did you have before?

I had a 2003 Tacoma, a 2001 4Runner, and later leased a couple of TRD Tacomas. My most recent Toyota was a 2023 SR5, which I traded for my F-150. It’s been a journey lol.

@Reed
You’re gonna love the F-150, but don’t expect Toyota-level reliability. I came from a Tundra and traded my F-150 for a Bronco recently.

Thanks! I got the 2.7 engine, so fingers crossed. But yeah, nothing beats Toyota reliability.

@Reed
The new Tacomas seem to have better engines and transmissions now.

Yeah, I’ve heard good things about them. Haven’t tried one yet, but they look solid.

I saw a video of the turbo flutter on the new Tacoma, and it sounds amazing. Definitely worth checking out.

We’ve got a 4-door Badlands with the Sasquatch package and a V6. It’s awesome for off-road fun, but not great for lots of highway driving. We get about 17 MPG on the highway, even in eco mode. The storage is decent for an SUV, but if you need to carry a lot, the Tacoma with a bed cover might be a better fit. We love our Bronco, but for what you’re describing, it may not be the best option.

@Bao
Every time I hear that radio ad about someone driving their Bronco on one tank of gas, I yell ‘Lies!’ at the radio. Every. Single. Time.

@Bao
If I keep it around 70 mph, I can get close to 25 MPG in normal mode with the V6. But at 75-80, it drops to 18-20 MPG.

Are you driving a Sport model? I have a coworker with a Black Diamond, and neither of us gets that kind of mileage.

@Bao
Nope, it’s a 2022 Wildtrak. I regularly see 25 MPG on the highway if I drive conservatively.

If you’re asking this forum whether to buy a Bronco, I think you already know what you want.

They look so good! It’s hard to decide though.

I like mine, but I’m not sure they’re worth the price tag. If you’re just in love with the look, though, go for it!

Agreed. Mine’s awesome.

I went from a Tundra to a Tacoma and now to a Bronco. The Tacoma was a downgrade in power and comfort, but if you don’t need a truck bed, I’d go for the Bronco.

You should go see one in person to check if the storage works for you. I’ve fit a decent amount in mine with the back seats folded, but I’d definitely care less about throwing stuff into a truck bed.
