Thinking about a Bronco Sport... what’s the deal?

I’m looking for a new car and leaning towards the Bronco Sport. I need something practical for commuting and also good for outdoor adventures. I’ve always liked the boxy look, and it reminds me of my first car. How reliable are they? Any pros or cons I should know about?

People are pretty harsh on the Bronco Sport, mostly because it’s not the full Bronco and uses the Escape’s platform. Still, reviews say it’s a good soft-roader and commuter. Not everyone needs a heavy-duty off-roader, right?

@Kelby
Exactly. I just need something that can tow a bit and handle snowy roads in winter. Plus, it’s for family use most of the time.

Yeah, it’s definitely not flashy, but it’s practical. A lot of SUVs these days are boring, so at least this one has some personality.

@Kelby
Totally agree. I’ve always been a truck guy, but with my commute, a truck doesn’t make sense. SUVs are just so… bland most of the time.

If you’re getting one, go for the 2.0L engine. The 1.5L 3-cylinder isn’t as reliable. Also, check out this forum for real-world feedback from owners.

I’ve got the 1.5L with 40k miles, no issues so far. It’s been great in winter and handles well. Worth a look.

@Tegan
Good to know! Would you say it’s been worth it overall? Any regrets?

No regrets at all. I put on some better tires, which improved the ride a lot. The interior tech feels a bit outdated, but it works fine for me.

@Tegan
When you say outdated, what do you mean? The screen or something else?

Mostly the screen and Ford’s Sync 3 system. It’s functional but not as modern as some competitors.

@Tegan
Fair point. Hopefully, they don’t go all touchscreen with no buttons in the future. That’s a pain.

My in-laws love theirs. They’ve owned a couple and haven’t had any major issues. They’re not luxurious, but they do the job.

@Tegan
Not a fan of the 1.5L engine personally. Feels underpowered.

You might want to check out the Maverick instead. It’s got similar capabilities, and I think they make a 4x4 version.

The hybrid is FWD, but the gas version has AWD. No true 4WD option, though.

How’s the back seat in the Maverick? Looks kinda small for kids’ car seats.

@VonDoom
It’s about the same as the Bronco Sport. The Escape has a little more room, though.

@VonDoom
I have a Maverick, and it fits two car seats fine. Finding one without a dealer markup might be tricky, though.

I’ve got the bigger engine in mine and love it. It’s not fancy, but it’s tough. I’ve used it for everything from hauling hay to driving in deep snow. Easy to clean too.
