System off message to save battery… anyone else?

Hi everyone,

I bought a 24 Big Bend brand new this summer, and it has only 3800 miles on it. It’s been great so far, but recently I noticed something odd. For the last few mornings, the screen says, ‘System off to save battery. Turn off ignition or start vehicle.’

The car starts fine, and I don’t see the warning while driving. The battery is pretty new, so it’s hard to believe it’s dying already. The weather has been colder recently (around freezing), but nothing extreme. Has anyone else experienced this with their 24 Big Bend? Any ideas on what could be causing it?

All recalls were addressed before I got the car. Thanks for any help!

My 21 does this sometimes too. It always starts fine, but it’s still a bit worrying.

I’ve been dealing with the same issue. I have a 2023 Badlands I got in April. At first, the auto start/stop worked fine, but after a few months, it stopped working because the battery doesn’t seem to charge fully. Every time I get in the car, it shows the ‘system off to save battery’ message.

I’ve tried long drives to charge it, but the message always comes back after a couple of days. I even took it to the dealership, and they said the battery was fine. I’m taking it back tomorrow—hopefully, they’ll figure something out. I’ll update you if they do!

Thanks for sharing! Fingers crossed they find a solution for you.

Same here with my 23 Badlands. After some testing, they decided to keep it for a few days to check for battery drain. Eventually, I convinced them to replace the battery under warranty, and the issue hasn’t come back since.

@Alton
Thanks for letting me know! I’ll try to get them to replace mine too if they say everything is fine again.

I had to push them a bit to replace it. They wanted to follow a specific process to get it covered under warranty. If they hadn’t replaced it, I was ready to just buy a new battery myself.

Good news—I just got back from the dealership, and they replaced my battery under warranty without any hassle. The notes on my invoice said the battery failed their test and needed to be replaced. Hopefully, this solves the issue for good!

@Finley
That’s great! It’s such a relief when they actually fix it. Hopefully, you don’t have to worry about this again.

This happened to me too. You’ll probably need to replace the battery.

It’s likely the battery isn’t holding a charge. This happens a lot with these models. A new battery should fix it.

Once you fix it, I’d recommend turning off the auto-start/stop feature. I feel like it wears out the battery faster. I turn mine off every time I start my Big Bend.

That message usually means there’s a slow battery drain. Do you have any accessories plugged in? Some ports stay powered even when the car is off.

No, I don’t use any accessories, and nothing is plugged in.

I only see this on my 21 Big Bend when it gets really cold. It still starts fine, but last winter, when it hit -10°F, the car wouldn’t start after showing that message.

I have a 24 Outer Banks with only 400 miles on it, and it wouldn’t start yesterday without a jump. Later that same day, it needed another jump. I think it might be the alternator not charging the battery properly. It’s at the shop now, so we’ll see.

I think something might be draining the battery that isn’t shutting off. Mine died last week, and I couldn’t start the car. After jumping it, everything has been fine, and even the auto start/stop works again. Maybe the system just reset itself.

This happened to me yesterday. I’ve had my 21 Outer Banks for over three years, and it’s happened a few times but never caused starting issues. I even had the battery checked recently, and they said it was fine.
