Sport Mode and Missing GOAT Modes

My wife and I both have Broncos. Hers is a Badlands without SAS, and mine is a Wildtrak with SAS. I have Sport mode, which is fun. Hers doesn’t. I know I can add it with Forscan, and I’ve got the setup to do it. But I’m wondering if there’s any reason not to add Sport mode to the Badlands? Would the gearing difference or anything else be a problem? Both have the same 2.7L V6.

No issues. I added it to mine and noticed better mileage. My only complaint is having to confirm every time I start the car.

I’ve heard that Sport mode gives better MPG. Is that mostly for highway or town driving? I tried Eco mode and only saw a 1 MPG improvement in town, but it feels heavier on the highway.

@Koa
Mostly town driving. I’ve got some heavy tires and added gear, so was getting about 14 MPG in town. After switching to Sport mode, it went up to 15.5. I also switched to 85 octane gas, and that might’ve helped. On long road trips, I get around 18-19 MPG in normal mode with cruise control.

@Hadley
Doesn’t Sport mode run in 4H?

It switches to 4A, which only activates 4WD when needed. I sometimes switch back to 2H, but 4A works fine most of the time.

It’s strange that Sport mode gives better mileage.

@Hadley
Using lower octane fuel lowers the timing and boost, which helps MPG. I do long drives weekly, and the range difference between 87 and 91 octane is about 1.5 MPG.

I’ve noticed the same thing. Lower octane fuel gives better MPG. In my case, Eco mode actually gave worse MPG compared to Normal. Sport mode held the revs longer, so that lowered MPG too. It would be great if Normal mode had the heavier steering from Sport mode.

Wait, you get better MPG in Sport mode? Do you have SAS?

@Kelby
Yep, I’ve got SAS.

That’s wild! I’m going to try Sport mode now. Thanks for sharing!

Go for it! It’s easy to add with Forscan.

Really? I thought it was more complicated. Time to figure out Forscan.

I need to figure it out too, but I’m more interested in adding the rock-crawling mode.

Sport mode in the F150 is a lot of fun too!

Same with the 5.0 engine. Total game changer.

I’m thinking of adding Baja mode too, but a little worried about using Forscan and messing things up. Do I need to reset everything before going to the dealer for warranty work?

Always save the original settings before using Forscan, so you can restore them if needed. I’ve never reverted changes before going to the dealer, and it hasn’t caused any problems for me. But if they notice changes, it might affect warranty claims. It’s a risk I’m willing to take.

You could just use Baja mode in 2H.
