Should I go for a Bronco Sport or the full Bronco?

I’ve been driving my 8-year-old Escape and thinking it’s time for an upgrade. I’m torn between the Bronco Sport and the regular Bronco. If I go with the regular Bronco, I’d likely get the Outer Banks trim for the comfort features. But without the Sasquatch package, it might not be as capable off-road. If I pick the Bronco Sport, I’d probably go for the Badlands with all the extras.

Here’s the thing: I’m not an experienced off-roader, so any off-roading I do would be mild. I also love the idea of the regular Bronco’s convertible roof, but I feel like the Sport would be easier to live with daily. On the flip side, I don’t want to feel like I didn’t go all-in by choosing the Sport.

Has anyone else faced a similar choice? Any advice on which way to go?

The Sport and Escape might share a platform, but they’re different vehicles. Just saying the Sport is an Escape isn’t accurate. They’ve got different interiors and builds. It’s not the same as, say, rebadging a car under another brand.

Here’s how I see it: if you go for the full Bronco, you’ll never look back and wish you had the Sport. But if you pick the Sport…

Exactly. Couldn’t agree more.

I went all in with the regular Bronco and have zero regrets. Love it.

Same here. Went from an Escape to a 2-door Outer Banks without Sasquatch, and I love it.

The Bronco Sport is more like an upgraded Escape, while the regular Bronco offers more space, better engine options, and more towing capacity. But keep in mind the Bronco’s removable roof can lead to wind noise or leaks over time. Plus, it might be easier for a thief to break in through the roof. So ask yourself: do you need the extra room, or the convertible roof? Or are you happy with something similar to your Escape?

@Eli
That’s exactly my dilemma. The Sport feels like the safe choice, but I keep imagining myself driving with the top down on the regular Bronco. That said, I know I’d rarely do that. My Escape has been great for daily use, but I’m tempted to try something different.

@Eli
Just to clarify, the Sport isn’t just an Escape with a different body. They’re on different frames and feel quite different to drive.

True, but the Escape, Maverick, and Bronco Sport share the same platform and many parts, like engines and transmissions. The differences are more in their design and purpose.

I own both a Bronco Sport (Badlands) and a regular Bronco (Big Bend with a soft top). The Sport is great for daily driving with good mileage and space. The regular Bronco is the most fun car I’ve ever had, especially with the top down. If I had to pick one, I’d go with the regular Bronco for the fun factor.

@Rory
Would you take the regular Bronco on a long road trip? I usually drive short distances, but I visit family a few hours away sometimes.

I usually take the Sport for longer trips because of the better gas mileage, but the regular Bronco is surprisingly comfortable. I’ve done a few long drives in it and had no complaints.

From what you’ve described, the Sport might be the better fit. It’s more affordable, shares similarities with your Escape, and is great for daily use. The regular Bronco is awesome but comes with a higher price and might not be as practical.

If you’re looking long-term, the regular Bronco might hold up better. The Sport’s engine has had some known issues. The extra cost might be worth it for peace of mind.

I got the Sport and love it as a daily driver. It’s more fuel-efficient, and the size works for me. I’d go for the regular Bronco only if they release a hybrid or electric version.

We have both—a Bronco Sport and a 2-door regular Bronco. The Sport is perfect for everyday use, but the Bronco is just more fun on weekends.

Do you think the regular Bronco could work as a daily driver? I’d still have my Mustang for fun, but the new car would be my all-rounder.

@Mica
It depends on your commute. If it’s short, the Bronco would be fine. It’s roomy and fun to drive, but the gas mileage isn’t great. I personally wouldn’t use it daily for a long commute.
