I got my truck as a grad gift, and it’s under my parents’ name. It won’t be paid off until May, but my husband and I are thinking about buying something sooner. It’s about to hit 100k miles, and I’d rather sell it before it goes over.
We were originally planning to buy used, but our dealership is advertising 15% off MSRP and 0% APR for 72 months on 2024 models. That’s making us consider buying new now instead of waiting. My husband is a mechanic, so we’re not too concerned about warranties.
I’m wondering if I can negotiate an even better deal. We’ll only go for it if it’s a really great offer. Otherwise, we’ll stick to our original plan and wait until May.
Do you think not having a trade-in will make this tougher? Would love any advice!
It depends on the dealer, your region, and the configuration you’re after.
Usually, dealers try to match market value in their area. They’ll want to clear out 2024 stock before 2025 models arrive around January, but if their stock is low, they won’t discount much. If they have a lot of vehicles on the lot, you might see better deals.
My dealer has 55 in stock, which is a bit more than they want but not excessive. Their biggest discount is $4,400 below MSRP for less popular configurations. On the popular ones, it’s just $500 off, which seems to be the standard Ford incentive in my area.
Forget about the ‘year-end deals’ hype. It’s a buyer’s market right now, so work on your negotiation skills. The ‘deals’ are just dealers trying to make their bad sales numbers look better.

I managed to negotiate a $62k MSRP Wildtrak down to $52k, but I didn’t need financing.
Here, not needing financing can actually hurt your deal because the dealer doesn’t get their kickback. It’s better to finance and then pay it off after a month or two.
@Hart
I paid cash, and they didn’t seem to care. It only came up after we’d already agreed on a price. Also, if it’s 0% financing, they’re not making money on interest anyway, so they might prefer cash.

That’s awesome. A couple of weeks ago, I tried negotiating on a Wildtrak with $15k cash, a $40k loan, and a $9k trade-in, but the salesman didn’t budge. I’m in Las Vegas and thinking about just waiting for the 2025 model.
I’m looking for a two-door Bend Sasquatch mid. The best deal I’ve seen is $3k off sticker on a $52k MSRP, plus $3k in Ford incentives ($1k rebate and $2k for owning a Toyota). I’m in the Sacramento area, and there are a lot of Broncos on lots here. Some dealers are still sticking to MSRP, but I’m willing to travel a bit to get the color and wheels I want. Just started emailing dealers to see who’s ready to deal.
The big discounts might be tied to the recent recalls for mass engine failures on earlier models. People are cautious about what might happen with the newer ones. Dealers need to draw customers in somehow.
