So we got a 2022 Wildtrak for my wife, and she’s really having a hard time climbing in. I looked into the AMP steps, but man, the price kinda made me hesitate. I’ve seen people on this forum say they’re the best, but I wanted to ask here before dropping that much cash. Has anyone tried other electric steps that worked well, or maybe found some solid rigid ones that do the job?
I’ve got rigid steps on my truck, and while they’re fine most of the time, they get covered in snow and ice during winter, making them slippery. That’s my only concern with fixed steps.
I went with Rock Slide Engineering. They’re tough enough to hold the truck’s weight and have a built-in step that pops out when you open the door. Snow doesn’t pile up on them except what’s already on your shoes. They also sell a light kit to go with it. My 5-year-old loves using both the step and the slider to climb in. They cost about the same as AMP steps, but they use magnetic sensors instead of wiring into the doors. You can also get switches for when the doors are off. Hope that gives you another option. I really like mine.
If you have the factory rock sliders, check out the iAG Full Length EZ Steps. I added them to my Badlands for my wife since she’s on the shorter side. They’re designed so snow doesn’t pile up, and they’ve got a nice grippy surface for wet or icy days. Plus, they’re easy to remove when you’re going off-road. I went through the same sticker shock with electric steps, and these felt like the best alternative.

Yeah, Wildtrak is built more for high-speed off-roading, not rock crawling, so no sway bar disconnect or sliders. But it’s still capable.
Makes sense, though Badlands has Baja mode too. It’s actually Sport mode that’s missing on Badlands unless you use ForScan to enable it.

Right! I keep mine in Sport mode all the time. Got a ProCal tune, and it’s a blast.
Sport mode and a tune are definitely on my list. Even without rev matching for my manual, it’s still worth doing. It’s annoying that the base model gets Sport mode, but the Badlands doesn’t without tweaking.

Yeah, it’s all about product differentiation. Thank goodness for ForScan. If I were buying now, I’d go Badlands too, but during the pandemic, options were limited, and I really wanted a white one.
