Has anyone used the Exped Megamat Auto? Is it worth getting?
I bought one from DeepSleep Overland, and I really like it. It’s actually more comfortable than my bed at home, lol.
I’ve got two singles that can be placed together, but the gap in the middle can be annoying. You also need to adjust the front seats forward a lot, and the pads go past the folded back seats. To make it work, you have to prop up the pads with something underneath, especially if your head is on that side. They were marketed for Bronco Sport and have a cutout for the center console, but it doesn’t seem essential.
If this option is thick enough and fits well, I’d consider switching to it because it’s a single piece.
Or… convince my partner to let me get a teardrop camper…
@Pax
How do you deal with the height difference between the seats and the cargo area?

There are two positions for the spare tire cover. Use the higher position, and it’s basically level. I have a BadSport with a full-size spare, so it’s already in the higher position.
@TimmyBlanco
That’s good to know! Appreciate it.

I use hard cases that I bring camping. I stand them up under the pads where my head goes, and they support the weight fine. With a pillow and the pad, I don’t feel a thing.
It wasn’t the best sleep ever, but three weeks ago, my 11-year-old daughter, 14-year-old son, and I fit in there. My daughter slept in the middle because she didn’t sink into the gap. We went head-to-toe to make it work.
We’re a pretty small family, though.
@Pax
You don’t flip the rear headrests to level them with the seats?

Even flipped, they don’t seem to fully support the weight. The surface area is just too small. My gear cases do the job pretty well and make the whole setup solid.
This exists? I’ve just been stacking blankets and throwing in pillows when I crash in the back during duty shifts .

You probably don’t have a wife, or maybe she doesn’t work with you?
@TimmyBlanco
I do, and you’re right, we don’t work together. She’s lucky enough not to deal with 24-hour shifts.

You should upgrade your sleeping setup. Comfort and insulation are definitely worth it.
@TimmyBlanco
Like I said, she doesn’t work with me, so sleeping during a 24-hour shift isn’t her issue, haha. As for me, the Army has me used to uncomfortable sleeping arrangements.

So why are you in this thread? To flex that you can rough it? Because it’s clear you’ve never tried this product.
@TimmyBlanco
I didn’t know fitted beds for Bronco Sports were even a thing. Sorry if your post was meant to teach us how to make car camping luxurious.

Okay, I was a bit harsh. A lot of people online seem to comment just to brag or troll.
I grew up camping and can make do with a blanket or an old military sleeping bag. My wife, though, is more into fancy travel, so I’m trying to find something comfortable enough to convince her to go car camping with me.

Exped is just one brand. There’s also Deep Sleep, Luno, and others.
Yes, fitted mattresses are a thing. And insulation (R Rating) matters for those of us living in places with real winters. Being comfy makes car camping so much better, whether it’s a weekend or a whole week.
