Hey everyone, I installed a Sundown SA 12" subwoofer and a SFB 1k amp in my 2024 OB on the second day I got it. Ever since, whenever I open any door or the trunk with the car off, the sub makes a loud pop. Sometimes if the door’s open for a while, I’ll hear a loud hum. Just yesterday, my girlfriend opened the door, and the sub started humming and popping loud enough that I had to unplug the RCA cable from the amp. My LOC is connected to the rear speakers. Anyone else had this happen? If your system’s working fine, how do you have it hooked up, and what LOC are you using?
Not much help on the setup, but that’s a great choice of subwoofer! I’ve had the SA-15 for almost a decade now, and it’s still going strong.
I install car audio – are you running the B&O system?

Nah, it’s just the base system.

@Lennon
You probably need something with an isolated ground. Try the LC1i from AudioControl – should fix the issue.

Would the LC2 or LC2 Pro be worth trying?

The LC2i Pro is definitely worth it. Plus, it comes with a bass knob, which is always nice to have.

Got another question since you seem to know your stuff! My amp has been cutting out at high volume and then comes back on when I turn it down. I checked the voltage, and it doesn’t drop below 13.9, so that seems fine, right? I tried a new amp, but when I hooked it up, there was a spark, and I think it fried the amp. So I have to send it back, but just curious if you have any idea what might be going on?
@Lennon
It could be distortion from the radio causing the amp to protect itself or making the LOC act weird. As for the spark, yeah, the amp’s likely toast. Make sure to make final connections at the battery, not the amp.
@Shane
Voltage only dips to 13.9 when there’s a strong bass hit.

That’s not too bad if it only happens on big bass hits. Maybe the amp just needs a bit more headroom?
